Judges may select an outstanding Scenefest entry to perform mainstage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who it\u2019s great for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new troupes who are exploring the opportunities of Festival<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">returning troupes who want to perform mainstage and couldn\u2019t attend Play Festival<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">independent upperclassmen who want to showcase their chops<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dedicated underclassman who would benefit from professional feedback<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guidelines:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each troupe may submit up to one Scenefest entry.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There may be any number of actors in the scene.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scenes will be performed Friday, and festival attendees are encouraged to watch.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scene must not be any longer than 10 minutes. 5 minutes is allowed to set up and\/or break down the set. (15 minutes total)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use of costumes and props is permitted, and 4 chairs are provided.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the scene needs music, the actors need to bring a battery-operated player; no power is provided.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are limited slots, so scenes are selected based on the Troupe\u2019s registration completion date.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to showcase as many troupes as possible, only troupes that haven&#8217;t won Scenefest<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the past 5 years<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may apply.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selecting your scene:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All material must follow State Festival guidelines for content:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plays must be HIGH SCHOOL APPROPRIATE. State Festival is inclusive of a wide range of schools and Thespians from diverse backgrounds. California Thespians supports students in tackling challenging material, and any material being considered for mainstage must be accessible to everyone in attendance. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When in doubt, aim for a G rating.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only scripts in the public domain or on EdTA\u2019s list of pre-approved publishers are allowed (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thespys.secure-platform.com\/a\/page\/approved-publishers\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">see the list of pre-approved publishers here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No original or student-written work will be accepted.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To support your student playwrights, encourage them to submit a <a href=\"http:\/\/cetoweb.org\/cst_festival\/thespys\/\">Playwriting Thespy<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">California State Thespians is committed to promoting <span class=\"il\">diversity<\/span> on all levels. We embrace inclusive casting for every role, and fully supports each student\u2019s choice to select material that speaks to them. Race, ethnic origin, gender and sexual orientation should not influence the evaluation of student performances at California Thespian events and competitions.
