California Chapter Select 2021

Due to Pandemic restrictions, there will be no regional Play Festivals or a Play Marathon this year, but we still have an opportunity for Thespian Troupes to compete to be this year’s California Chapter Select.

California Chapter Select Play Entry Guidelines

All Troupes who plan on participating in this year’s Virtual California Chapter Select are encouraged to submit a recording of a performance, using these guidelines:

Your performance must be no longer than 30 minutes. If you submit something longer, you will be disqualified. You are responsible for editing your submission. You can submit a recording of a live performance, a virtual performance, a zoom performance, or whatever works best for your circumstances this year. You can submit a show that is under 30 minutes long or a cutting of a longer show. It can be a musical or a straight play. It can be an original play. It can be student-written. It should be a recording of something that was made this school year. Given the realities of the 2020-21 school year, we are expecting recordings that have been made in a number of formats. You will not be judged on the format of your performance. The judges will focus on performances, not formats. You will also not be judged on the length of your performance, as long as it is under 30 minutes total.

You must have procured rights for your performance, including streaming rights. If streaming rights are not available for your performance, choose another show. An important exception: if a play is in the public domain, you do not need to procure rights. All works first published or released before January 1, 1926 will be in the public domain, effective January 1, 2021.

You will submit your work by putting a link on the application form. Most schools use YouTube, but other formats are allowed. Make sure your link is viewable. Links that are blocked cannot be judged and will be disqualified.

The cost for this event is $25. Every performance will receive a written evaluation by our judges.

The top performances will be selected by the judges. The Chapter Select winner will be presented at the virtual International Thespian Festival in Summer, 2021.
