Two of the most exciting moments of the California State Thespian Festival are the Opening Number and Festival Finale. This is a great way to represent your school and show off your talent on the main stage.
Opening Number: Another Day of Sun
This upbeat dance number kicks off the first night of Festival.
Celebrate the 2026 State Festival theme Capture the Moment with a fully choreographed dance to Another Day of Sun from La La Land. This high energy number is open to dancers and movers. Choreography and rehearsal videos will be distributed to the cast to prepare before the Festival. The number will be staged on the first day of Festival and be ready to perform the first night!
Nominations: Troupe Directors may nominate up to two (2) student dancers and one (1) understudy for the Opening Number. Casting consideration includes representing as many Troupes as possible.
Troupe Directors who would like to submit student dancers for casting in the Opening Number, submit this form by Nov 30.
No fee.

Festival Finale: Capture the Moment
30 minute performance, mainstage on Sunday morning.
The Festival Finale is a staged collage of the best work from the weekend that fits the Festival theme Capture the Moment!
To have your performance or short film Thespy considered for Festival Finale, choose a piece that fits the theme, then check the appropriate box at the end of the Thespy submission form.

California State Thespians is committed to promoting diversity on all levels. We embrace inclusive casting for every role, and fully supports each student’s choice to select material that speaks to them. Race, ethnic origin, gender and sexual orientation should not influence the evaluation of student performances at California Thespian events and competitions.
(Special consideration may be taken where race is germane to the text.)
