California State Play Festivals

California Thespians invites you to participate in the annual California Thespian Play Festival.

California State Thespians (CST) invites all California High Schools to bring a short play (no longer than 30 minutes) or a cutting of a play (no longer than 30 minutes) to the annual California Thespian Play Festival. Schools may bring a play, musical, or original piece. This event has a festival feeling, with students sharing their work with each other. Using the California State Thespian rubric, plays will be adjudicated by a panel of theatre professionals who will share their notes with the cast and crew immediately after each performance in a casual, educational atmosphere. Judges will privately select their top three plays and rank them. The Judge’s #1 choice will be invited to perform on the Main Stage at the California State Thespian Festival at the Highlander Auditorium in Upland, CA. In order to perform, the winning school needs to become a member of EDTA (if they are not) AND register on time for the CST Festival, before the conference sells out. Space will not be held in advance.

 

Registration Notes:

The first 10 Troupes to submit a complete application will be chosen to perform. If more than 10 schools apply, preference will be given to High Schools that are current members of Educational Theatre Association (EDTA). Non chartered schools, please take note. At time of registration you will be placed on the waitlist until the close of registration and a $100 non Troupe Fee will apply. 

• A complete application is one that has registered online and has included rights, final script, summary for program, and full payment.
• Note regarding incomplete registrations: Avoid submitting registration with incomplete information. At time of submission you should have your piece selected, with rights, script, and summary ready. Registration confirmation will be sent only when all items and payment are received.
• The only item that can be received later in the registration process is the official cast list.

Registration opens on October 1st. Registration will close on November 15, 2018, or until limit is reached (whichever comes first). 

Please Note – Upon completing the form you will receive a registration notification and invoice. Please keep this as it will allow you to make edits until registration is closed.

Payment Information:

The only accepted method of payment is via school/district check, cashiers check, or money order. Should you want to pay via credit card please reach out to us so we may send you an electronic invoice. No personal checks will be accepted. Checks for Festival registration should be made out to California Thespians and mailed to:
